and Utilizing Color Therapy.
Using and working with Color Therapy is one of the most useful ways in treating and dealing with SAD, also know as Seasonal Affected disorder. So what exactly is SAD?According to the Mayo Clinic and Google, Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that’s related to changes in seasons — SAD begins and ends at about the same times every year. If you’re like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody, depressed as well as some of these other symptoms:
- loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
- social withdrawal
- low energy
- difficulty concentrating
- sleep disturbance
- reduced sex drive
- changes in appetite
- sluggishness or agitation
Those living in the Midwest USA, can ideally attest to the fact that after about 3 days of no sunshine, the edges of grim start popping out of the corners of the woodwork reminding you that your thirst for sun is definitely not in your forecast.
On those kinds of days we have to create our own sunshine, if we want to evolve out of the SAD prison. One of my most favorite, easy fast and effective way to achieve this I have found is utilizing the powerful benefits of Color Therapy. Yellow is the powerhouse achiever color when it comes to wiping out the blues of any kind in this department. It is our source energy, our bringer of sunshine, happiness and warmth. It stimulates our Vitamin D production, mental clarity, eases depression allowing greater self-esteem, and confidence. Yellow relates to our Solar plexus chakra, digestive organs and associates with action, assertion, empowerment. It is the area where chi or life force is stored. No wonder we feel so good when basked in the rays of the glorious sunshine. The sun is the ignition key to our fuel, runs through our veins like blood nourishing every cell and atom maintaining our energetic frequency.
Usually after about the 3-4th day of no sunshine I start a serious graze into my wardrode looking for all my HAPPY clothing consisting of yellow, more yellow, and shades of yellow. Wearing Yellow clothing is one of the simplest and easiest ways to pick yourself up on SAD day. It can range from shoes, shirt, sock, scarf, makeup, jewelry, underwear, nail polish, etc, you get the gist, you have brought the yellow in.
Another simple easy method is to incorporate yellow foods into your diet for the day. Consuming foods in yellow color help support, uplift and aid in your digestion system and your solar plexus chakra. And lets not forget, when your out getting your groceries and its a SAD day, stop by the floral department and pick out a bunch of YELLOW flowers. Our sight and smell senses are enhanced when we are around flowers. Flowers emit a frequency vibration of their own which in reality is powerful, as it makes us feel good in our heart space.
Did you know that essential oils relate to colors as well? You can work with Yellow Coded oils as I call them, by bathing, inhalation, diffusing or wearing one of the uplifting fragrances below. They all have a uplifting resonance and feel to them. Stimulating the brains olfactory senses has proven to be effective . Applying them on the solar plexus chakra center will aid in boosting digestion and our will power. Make sure you always dilute your oils if not already diluted. One of my most favorite ways to get out of the SAD dumps is to wear my YELLOW COLOR THERAPY GLASSES! Yes, yellow color therapy glasses. You would be surprised how these yellow beauties can be used for multiple functions. I have a few friends that started wearing yellow colored glasses while they were at work using their computers. They said it has helped improved their over all well-being. I personally have worn my glasses for watching television, driving and extensive computer work. And last but NOT least is my ultimate favorite, Light Therapy. Below is a LED light therapy lamp that uses colored filters from Vitalight in Canada. There is a bit more of a education around using light therapy for healing specific cases, thou for SAD you can use a yellow filter in the room your occupying. The yellow light is very restorative and uplifting with its vibrancy. Some people use light bulbs in smaller areas. Another innovation is a Sunrise Simulation Wake Up Light. The sunlight will be on gradually from 10% of brightness to 100% of brightness until the room is filled with bright yellow light like a full sun. Alot of different light therapy devices are available on the internet. The component in working with any of these I mentioned is the desire to experience and see for yourself what results you achieve and what works best for you.
As we slowly enter the age of Aquarius and the 21st century you will be seeing more Light therapy beds and holographic pods for healing coming into the mainstream.
